The Ivy Center

Commercial & Hospitality

Serving a deep need in the community, the renovation and expansion of the Ivy Center successfully connects the use of immersive, natural light to the healing and wholeness of the human soul. The use of light shelves, double-volume space, continuous curtain walls, and in-ground light wells collaborate to bring light deep into the heart of the Ivy Center to the benefit of everyone who steps foot inside.

DEFINING FEATURES INCLUDE:

      • Maximizing the available natural light was a main theme for this design to promote holistic wellness and connection to nature. The use of light shelves in group meeting rooms maintains access to natural light while providing shading from direct sun and heat.
      • Focus was put on enhancing privacy through limiting sound transmission using active & passive acoustical separation
      • Lessening the stigma of seeking mental health services through design. It was important to us and our client for the new building to feel warm and welcoming…like someone's home rather than a sterile, clinical environment. It was also important to provide a main entrance that was a focal point and beautiful rather than a hidden, congested doorway facing the back alley.
      • Mental Health as Economic Development. Simply put: A healthy workforce is a productive and stable workforce!
